Christian Montenegro

Comic book illustrations have played a big part in the artistic life of Christian Montenegro. Born in Buenos Aires, he studied Graphic Design at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and had the good fortune also to study and learn in the studio of one of the world’s greatest comic book illustrators, Alberto Breccia. Recently he was awarded the prestigious PRIX SWATCH for his creative work as an illustrator. His work was also exhibited early this year at Johanssen gallery in Berlin, Germany.

Having worked for more than five years with digital media, Christian is fascinating mixing graphic design and comic book styles and likes to experiment with both in his artworks.

For lavie & belle, the picture he has created is called ‘A simple and happy moment’ and as it depicts the friendship between two great literary characters Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.

“The road is a metaphor for life and here we see the two men stopping to take some golden apples together,” he explains. “They are two very close friends – each incomplete without the other. But they are also very different characters and enrich each other because of that. To have a friend who is identical to you is narcissistic. But to love someone for their differences is courageous and wonderful.

“I like the idea of a friend being someone who is different from you - who takes you in new directions on life’s journey.”
