Mar Hernández
Mar Hernández works under the pseudonym Malota. She was born in Jaen in the south of Spain in 1980 and has a degree in Fine Arts.
Today she works from her studio – MalotaProjects – in Valencia, a Mediterranean city on the east coast of Spain.
Mar uses her flair and craft as a designer and illustrator to create stunning and original artworks - colourful yet delicate and with a distinctive style that is subtle, fresh and modern. Her work has been featured at many contemporary art fairs in Spain and she recently won a prestigious National Illustration Award from Injuve – Instituto de la Juventud.
For lavie & belle’s debut collection, Mar has interpreted the theme of ‘Friendship’ in her picture ‘Lazos’ - a beautiful and sensitive depiction of the connections that exist between friends.
“The ties are not identical,” she says. “Some are binding, others more loose, one close and others distant, some small and others large … a simple poetic metaphor to represent the different bonds of friendship.”
