Showko Akane
Vitality, colour and movement are the essence of the artworks created by Showko Akane, an award-winning artist and illustrator from Japan.
Captivated by their sheer energy, grace and exuberance, Showko Akane frequently features dancers in her work. Her paintings are a richly colourful homage to nature, art and music.
Showko Akane has exhibited in many major cities, including Montreal and Tokyo. She was recently listed as one of the world’s best illustrators by Lurzer’s Archive in Austria.
“My picture for lavie & belle is called ‘Pray’ and is a celebration of the joy and life-affirming energy that friendship brings,” Showko Akane explains. “The dancing figure is based on Sarasvati, the Hindu goddess of art, music, water and wealth, and the Japanese performer Orija. Her dancing is seen as a kind of prayer to nature and the great mother earth who nurtures us all.”
